There’s something magical about the process of kiln-formed glass.

Katherine Stewart—Fused Glass Artist

After selling residential real estate in Houston, Texas for 35+ years, I knew that I wanted to do something creative. My mother and grandmother were both artists; so there had to be some seed of creative talent somewhere not yet nurtured.

Many years ago a teaching studio for fused glass opened one block from my home. After a few courses, I knew what I wanted to do in my “next” career. Working with hot glass, or glass fused in a kiln, became my passion. It was meant to be—I was hooked.

We were created in God’s image. He created the beauty around us that is so inspiring for an artist—the gorgeous and refreshing sunrises, the peaceful and colorful sunsets, the snow-capped mountains rising in majesty, the deep blue oceans serenely moving at the pace of nature. The beauty which surrounds us motivates me to create and the colors become my palette.

The joy of working with glass-cutting and mixing colors that are transparent or opalescent with design elements beyond imagination and then watching what happens when the glass is heated to 1500 degrees or more is magical and exciting.

Each piece is unique—the design, the colors, the process.
